At our showroom in Mejiro, located 10 minutes from the JR Mejiro Station, visitors can experience the allure of such woodcut prints.

Chris Ofili’s New Woodcut Print Satyr Night (waterfall) Now Available

Satyr Night (waterfall), a new woodcut print by Chris Ofili, emerged from a long process of trial and refinement with master carvers and printers trained in traditional techniques. Ofili conceived the idea of incorporating the natural grain of the printing block and setting the deep black of sumi ink against the luminous translucency of water-based pigments to render aurora-like light within the darkness of night. Discover the rich colors of the “midnight sunrise” that the artist sought to realize in this work.

Hiroshige in Focus: Works Made with Mica (Kira) Printing

In mica (kira) printing, the mineral mica is mixed with pigment before printing. Hiroshige used it to great effect in many works depicting natural phenomena such as rain and snow. Ukiyo-e prints were originally made to be held and viewed at close range, and they often include subtle effects such as these that can best be appreciated up close.
