Antony Gormley "RAPT"

Gormley brushed ink onto each sheet individually, producing bleeding washes with an opening at the center, as if light were radiating from within. Printed onto that opening are a figure leaning forward and a landform on which it stands. The printer gave himself entirely to the formidable task the artist had entrusted to him: placing the figure exactly where it belonged. Emerging from Gormley’s visit to the workshop in 2024, Rapt demonstrates what becomes possible when an artist’s original vision meets the highly refined skill of today’s master carvers and printers, pointing the way toward new frontiers in woodcut printmaking.
