Adachi presents four masterpieces produced by Tsutaya, thoughtfully paired with Adachi’s signature dark brown finish frame that complements any print or interior style.
Tsutaya Jūzaburō was an ukiyo-e producer and publisher of Edo who discovered Utamaro and Sharaku. This selection includes four iconic works published by Tsutaya. First two are the classic ōkubie (bust-up portraits) by Sharaku and Utamaro, featuring backgrounds with gorgeous mica printing. And, the third one is from Utamaro’s "Twelve Hours in the Pleasure Quarter," a series that portrays the daily life of Yoshiwara courtesans in twelve scenes, each corresponding to an hour of the day. The elegant full-length figures and lavish sunago (brass dust) backgrounds add to its charm. Lastly, "Momochidori," one of the Kyōka, poem illustrated book trilogy by Utamaro, published under Tsutaya’s patronage. Adachi has reimagined this masterpiece as a single-sheet print.
