Nick Walker “Tokyo Nectar”

Nick Walker has gained international recognition for his The Morning After series, in which he uses intricate stencils to depict cityscapes from around the world. In the past, he presented The Morning After: Tokyo, a striking work featuring a burst of colorful spray erupting from the peak of Mount Fuji. For this new woodcut print, Walker reimagines his series through the lens of traditional ukiyo-e, drawing inspiration from the works of Hokusai and Hiroshige. The deep indigo cityscape evokes the famous “Hiroshige blue,” while the bokashi gradation of passion pink creates a mysterious sense of depth. From the summit of Mount Fuji, golden nectar bursts forth and rains down upon the city of Tokyo—perhaps carrying with it some extraordinary power.
