This piece is an excerpt of the Black Tortoise depicted on the northern side of the epitaph of Yuan Hui, a member of the royal family of the Northern Wei Dynasty during China's Northern and Southern Dynasties period. The Black Tortoise, a mythical creature combining a tortoise and the 2025 zodiac sign, the "Snake," is one of China's Four Symbols and serves as the guardian deity of the north. The piece is inscribed with the characters for "Fortune" (福) and "Longevity" (寿), embodying prayers for happiness and long life in 2025.
