<p>Utagawa Kunisada "Hina Doll (Dairibina)"</p>
March 3rd is the day of the “Doll’s Festival” in Japan. It is a festival for girls that started around the 800s. The girls' parents display a set of dolls, called “Hina ningyo dolls,” wishing a healthy and happy life for their daughters. The set of dolls represents the wedding ceremony of the aristocratic people.
This ukiyo-e Hina doll is quite rare, and it is assumed that it must have been privately ordered to Utagawa Kunisada, who was one of the most popular ukiyo-e artists, and made as a custom-ordered print. A pair of Hina dolls depicted in this ukiyo-e are Emperor and Empress, which is the highest class for the doll’s set.
Kunisada portrayed the representations of the Emperor and Empress with the highest manners. It is a beautiful commissioned work by Kunisada and has everything that every single parent wishes for their daughters!

This design would make a great gift for your grandchild or niece to celebrate the Doll's Festival, but this gorgeous and stylish ukiyo-e Hina doll is also perfect for adult women to enjoy displaying in their homes.
