Alison Elizabeth Taylor is an artist who produces works using a unique method of combining painting with a technique called "marquetry," which is inlay work that creates patterns and pictures by pasting thin wooden boards together. It can be said that she is typical of artists who have expanded from crafts to contemporary art in recent years, and her highly refined works have received high acclaim both in the United States and abroad.
In the work "Poolside," the person is represented by wood grain, and the surroundings are printed with a unique rough texture, showing contrasting textures.

Alison Elizabeth Taylor is an artist based out of New York City. She is known for her marquetry hybrid work combining Renaissance-style marquetry with painting and collage to depict contemporary subject matter. Taylor's exhibitions have been covered in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Village Voice. In 2022, Taylor received the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition Prize. Taylor’s winning work, Anthony Cuts under the Williamsburg Bridge, Morning, 2020, was featured in The Outwin 2022: American Portraiture Today, a major exhibition that was on view at the National Portrait Gallery from April 2022, through February 2023.

Traditional Techniques and Adachi's Artisans

The production of ukiyo-e, which developed as a commercial printing method, focused on efficiency and profitability. And so, all processes are streamlined and sophisticated. We will introduce the basics of ukiyo-e techniques through the production process of Katsushika Hokusai's masterpiece "The Great Wave off Kanagawa."
