「雛形若菜初模様」は、吉原の遊女たちの姿を描き出した錦絵のシリーズ。安永〜天明期にかけて、約140図が刊行されました。その大半を、およそ7年もの歳月をかけて手掛けたのが、浮世絵師・磯田湖竜斎です。「雛形」とあるように、それぞれの遊女たちの趣向をこらした華やかなファッションが目を引きます。
この作品で描かれているのは、四ツ目屋の遊女、勝山。豪華な孔雀の打掛、松青海の着物に梅花文の帯。そして禿たちの振袖には竹が描かれ、松竹梅のコーディネートになっています。首に紅色の紐を巻かれた白茶猫は、禿に遊ばれてちょっと迷惑そう?
